BonMoment | Gluten-Free Bread & Baked Goods Shop in Sapporo

TakeOut

Soseigawa East, one of Sapporo’s trendiest areas, is known for its stylish cafés and bakeries.
In May 2025, BonMoment — a specialty shop offering gluten-free bread and baked goods made with rice flour — opened just a 4-minute walk from Sapporo Factory.
From their popular 100% rice-flour loaf bread that keeps customers coming back, to the jewel-like kohakutō sweets that have gone viral on social media, we visited the shop to experience their carefully crafted lineup firsthand.

Location & Access to BonMoment

BonMoment, a bakery specializing in gluten-free bread and baked sweets, is located in Kita 3-jo Higashi 3-chome, Chuo Ward, Sapporo.
It’s about a 9-minute walk from Bus Center-mae Station, 12 minutes from Odori Station, and 13 minutes from Sapporo Station — making it easy to access from anywhere in the city.
The popular shopping complex「Sapporo Factory」is just around the corner, so it’s a perfect stop while sightseeing or shopping in the area.

From Sapporo Factory, walk northwest and you’ll soon spot a red-brick-style building on your left — that’s where BonMoment is located, on the first floor.

About BonMoment

BonMoment店内の様子
Inside the shop, where beautifully arranged gluten-free breads and baked sweets welcome you.

BonMoment was founded in May 2022.
At first, the owner sold gluten-free rice flour breads and sweets exclusively online and through consignment.
In May 2025, the first physical store finally opened, and now customers can enjoy freshly baked breads and pastries at the shop four days a week (Tuesday to Friday).

The name BonMoment means “good time” in French.
It reflects the owner’s wish to make bread and sweets that bring a little moment of joy to everyday life.

The shop values simple, never-boring flavors and uses ingredients that everyone can enjoy with peace of mind.
Because everything is gluten-free, BonMoment’s treats are perfect not only for people with wheat allergies, but also for families and seniors who want to share the same table.
There’s also a heartfelt desire to make eating more enjoyable and inclusive for everyone.

Although the owner, Ms. Togashi, doesn’t have a wheat allergy herself, discovering rice flour completely changed her perspective.

I used to think that being gluten-free meant sacrificing some of the taste. But rice flour breads and sweets are surprisingly delicious, satisfying, and gentle on the body. I wanted more people to know that.

As the number of people with wheat allergies or gluten intolerance continues to grow, gluten-free specialty stores are still relatively rare.
That’s why BonMoment was created — to share the delicious potential of rice flour with more people.

A Delicious Lineup of Rice Flour Breads and Baked Sweets

At BonMoment, you’ll find a wide variety of gluten-free treats — from rice flour breads to pound cakes, scones, chiffon cakes, cookies, and even the beautifully colored kohakutō (traditional Japanese crystal candy made from agar and sugar).

Whenever possible, the ingredients are sourced domestically.
For example, BonMoment uses Hokkaido-grown “Kirara 397” rice flour for baked sweets and Kumamoto-grown “Mizuhocikara” for breads, carefully selecting the best type for each product.

One of the most popular items is the 100% rice flour loaf bread, loved by many repeat customers.
Through extensive trial and error, the recipe was refined to balance the soft, chewy texture unique to rice flour without making it too dense or firm.

For cookies and pound cakes, BonMoment uses “Soy Le Beurre”, a plant-based butter made from soy milk, instead of dairy butter.
It’s a thoughtful touch that allows customers to enjoy not only gluten-free but also dairy-free options.

You can enjoy them as they are, but I also recommend adding them to sparkling drinks — it looks and tastes wonderful!

Taste Test|Trying BonMoment’s Gluten-Free Breads and Baked Goods

This time, I picked up a few breads and sweets that caught my eye and took the time to enjoy them at home.
Each item had a unique texture and flavor, showcasing the distinct charm of rice flour.
Let’s explore them in three categories: breads, baked sweets, and kohakuto (Japanese crystal candy).

Rice Flour Breads (Shokupan, Baguette, Cinnamon Roll)

Each loaf of BonMoment’s rice-flour bread comes with a small instruction card explaining the best way to reheat it.

Since rice flour breads tend to firm up over time, following the card’s directions brings back their soft, fluffy texture perfectly.

For this tasting, I lightly toasted the shokupan and baguette, and warmed the cinnamon roll in the microwave (600W) for about 10 seconds.

Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside

The shokupan turns wonderfully crisp on the outside and airy inside when toasted. With every bite, you can taste the gentle sweetness of rice.
It’s delicious on its own, but adding a touch of butter makes it even more satisfying.

What impressed me most was how the bread avoids the heavy, sticky texture often found in rice flour breads. Its light, balanced crumb makes it perfect even for first-time gluten-free bread eaters.

The baguette has a fragrant, crispy crust and a moist interior. It pairs beautifully with olive oil or as a base for canapés.

The cinnamon roll features a perfect balance between the fragrant spiced dough and the smooth cream cheese topping. It’s mildly sweet, making it easy to enjoy until the very last bite.

Baked Sweets (Scones, Pound Cake, and Cookies)

BonMoment’s baked goods include two types: those made with fermented butter and those made with “Soy Le Beurre,” a plant-based butter alternative derived from soy milk.
This time, I tried both to compare their distinct flavors.

Pound Cake
Baked without baking powder, the cake has a fine, moist, and fluffy texture.

With Soy Le Beurre (Banana): Gentle notes of soy complement the sweet, mellow flavor of banana.

With Fermented Butter: Rich and aromatic, with the deep flavor characteristic of real butter.

Almond & Chocolate Cookies (Soy Le Beurre)
These cookies have a delightful crunch and a light, clean finish. The subtle hint of soy milk adds a pleasant depth that makes you reach for another bite.

Scone (Fermented Butter)
I reheated it in a toaster for about 5 minutes wrapped in foil. The outside turned crisp and fragrant, while the inside stayed soft and tender.
With the first bite, the aroma of fermented butter spreads gently through the mouth—rich yet perfectly balanced. Despite its generous size, it felt surprisingly light and was gone before I knew it.

Fun and Eye-Catching! BonMoment’s Kohakuto and Soda Arrangement

Kohakuto shining like colorful jewels

First, I tried a single piece on its own. The surface has a crisp, crystalline texture, while the inside breaks lightly with a satisfying crunch. The grapefruit juice sealed inside brings a pleasantly sweet and tangy freshness.

This time, I also tried the recommended Kohakuto Soda.

When dropped into a glass, the sparkling Kohakuto pieces look just like gemstones. The soda water itself is unsweetened, but the occasional bite of the sweet Kohakuto adds just the right amount of flavor contrast. Since these Kohakuto candies contain real fruit juice, they pair perfectly with soda.

If you freeze the Kohakuto and use them instead of ice, it makes the drink even more refreshing!

By the way, many store-bought Kohakuto varieties use artificial colorings and flavorings, but BonMoment’s version is made only with beet sugar, fruit juice, and agar. The simple, natural ingredients make it a safe and delightful treat to enjoy.

BonMoment — Store Information

BonMoment外観アップ

This time, we introduced BonMoment, a gluten-free bakery and confectionery shop located in the Sosei River East area of Sapporo.
Although gluten-free shops have gradually increased in number, places where you can regularly buy freshly baked gluten-free bread are still quite rare.

Before opening its physical store, BonMoment had already been selling its products on consignment at「Wakuwaku Hiroba」(in Apia, Le Trois, and Ario shopping centers)and it seems that many loyal fans have followed the brand since then.
Ms. Togashi shared, “The happiest moment for us was hearing from customers who said they had been eagerly waiting for our shop to open.”

In addition to pop-up events, BonMoment now plans to expand its lineup in-store. For those who live too far away, online shopping is also available (see the table below for details).

Looking ahead, Ms. Togashi says, “We’d like to increase our seasonal menu items and eventually offer café-style options and other gluten-free or organic products as well.”
It sounds like there’s even more to look forward to on future visits.
